LIVABILITY SUMMIT

Valley Forward's Livability Summit will celebrate the organization's 40th anniversary year with pioneers of the sustainability movement - Ralph Nader and Ed Begley Jr. Like our Association, they embraced environmental stewardship long before it went mainstream.

Our sixth annual event on April 16, 2009 will be held as a half-day conference focusing on the theme "Healthy Environment - Healthy Economy". Hundreds of business and civic leaders attend the summit, which this year will advocate sustainable capitalism, focusing on energy, new technologies, transportation, green building, financial incentives and more. In addition to nationally recognized keynotes, panel presentations will bring local experts together for an interactive dialogue. Valley Forward's Resource Area will also spotlight local sustainability initiatives with informational booths and displays

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:

Ralph Nader, presidential candidate and founder of the Green Party, has been honored by Time magazine as "One of the 100 Most Influential Americans of the Twentieth Century," and recently as "One of the 100 Most Influential Figures in American History," by The Atlantic. He was instrumental in creating the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Ed Begley Jr., actor and activist, takes personal responsibility for the environment to a degree few individuals can match. He is the co-star of the hit HGTV series Living with Ed, a look at the day-to-day realities of "living green" on Discovery's new network Planet Green. One of the hottest speakers on eco-living in America, his theme, Live Simply So That Others Can Simply Live, resonates with audiences worldwide.
