LIVABILITY SUMMIT

Valley Forward will host its fifth annual Livability Summit on April 22nd as a half-day conference on building healthy communities. The event targets the Valley’s business and political leadership, and features a component for students. Our agenda promotes integrated solutions for sustainable development, focusing on such issues as land use and open space planning, water management, renewable energy and transportation/air quality. These topics are addressed through local panels, exhibits and nationally recognized keynote speakers.

Previous speakers have included: David Victor, director, Stanford Program on Energy and Sustainable Development, Terry Tamminen, environmental leader, policy advisor and accomplished author, Joel Kotkin, author/futurist on global, economic, political and social trends, Christine Todd Whitman, co-chair of the National Smart Growth Council and former U.S. EPA Administrator, Joel Garreau, editor for the Washington Post and author of “Radical Evolution” and “Edge City: Life on the New Frontier,” Amory Lovins, CEO of the Rocky Mountain Institute; Neal Pearce, of Citistates Group and a nationally syndicated columnist on urban development; the late Richard Smalley, Ph.D., Nobel Laureate and discoverer of fullerenes or “Buckyballs”; and Peter Calthorpe, principal of Calthorpe & Associates, who was named one of 25 innovators on the cutting edge by Newsweek Magazine for redefining models for urban and suburban growth.
