Abortions: Pro- Choice
We have seen it in the declaration of independence, and have heard it for Martin Luther king Jr. “All men are created equal.” That means all women and men were created equally and that we all have equal rights, and should all be treated equally. With abortion, being the controversial issue that it is, are “all men” really created equally? In 1973, abortion was legalized by the U.S. Supreme Court rule in Roe v. Wade. She couldn’t go to a hospital, because the cost of getting one was very expensive and she didn’t want her parents to find out, and since that small cheap clinic wouldn’t accept her because she was catholic, she performed one herself, with 3 other friends, and was rushed to the hospital because of loss of blood. She is fine now, but lives with regret because she lost so much family for the action she picked, because she was in a life or death situation. The fact that the clinic judge her for being catholic, because they didn’t want the church to get mad at them for taking in a catholic is beyond wrong, my god mother told me that that place is now shut down, due to inappropriate actions; of a women being in an life or death situation, that wanted an abortion, and didn’t get one.
In the article Abortion Statistics it is said that “About 14,000 women get abortions fallowing incest or rape and it is estimated that 43% of women worldwide will have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old. It is also estimated that there are 43 million abortions a year.” (2008). To the Pro: life supports, those numbers are a dagger to the heart, but the women, who got those abortions, the choice was theirs, and it has been their choice since 1973; Pro-life supports are very one-sided and ignorant to the reasons of why a woman makes her own choice to have an abortion.
