Abortion, also called voluntary abortion, is a medical procedure used to end a pregnancy which results by the death of the fetus or embryo. In 76% of industrialized countries, abortion has been legalized, while the debate is still on table for the rest of the world. It’s a question that still divide although it’s quite difficult to take a clear position, there is no right or wrong but purely a question open to interpretation. Those who claim abortion to be right is the result of a personal free will, argue it’s a woman’s right be able to choose what happen to her body; in the other side those who refute claims it’s a murder of an innocent and vulnerable baby whose freedom was taken away. During 1950’s in United States, the number of illegal abortion was between 250,000 and 1,2 millions per year; plus around 5500 of women died every year as a direct consequence of insecure abortion.
Second, regardless religious arguments, opposition explain that pretending it’s a woman’s right to control her body shouldn’t take supremacy over a helpless embryo or foetus’s right to life. When an embryo is or should be considered as a human it’s hard to determine exactly but according to fact the brain works after 40 days and heart beat after on average 20 days. However, it’s undeniable that adoption might be a solution even it’s must be hard, very emotional, stressful or even depressing to carry their child for month and abandon him/her to a stranger. Indeed, only 1% over 30,000 parents get the chance to adopt within the first year which mean that unwanted child can be the chance for happiness for another family.
At least but not the least, there are some controversial situation that both sides can only be agreeing on. It can be the cause of rape, incest, or a teen that lost her virginity and get pregnant because of her lack of experience or not provided with necessary information. About 19,500 women who aborted last year fall under incest or rape in the U.S. . Another argument often considered as self-defence is when the fetus can be a danger for a mother’s health or life, it became acceptable and 3% of abortions in U.S. are done every year for this reason.
To conclude, I believe that every man and woman must have choice and freedom to take decision for him or her regarding any situation. There is no absolute truth about abortion and this statement is not absolutely wrong or right it’s all gray.
