Introduction: Affirmative action means taking positive steps to recruit, hire, train and promote individuals from groups that have been discriminated on the basis of race, sex, disability, or other characteristics. Affirmative action has its origins in the civil rights movement of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, in which in brought a dramatic change to U.S social life through protests, court decisions and legislative action.
