MDI Murshidabad in association with HrUdbhav( HR club of MDIM) organized its first HR Meet “Samanvay’15” on 19th & 20th September, 2015. This very first edition of HR Meet was based on the premise that the overall HR scenario in India and at the global level is undergoing a sea change. HR is no more a staff-function; rather it has acquired an agile role. Subsequently many HR managers, unlike in the past, are becoming strategic business partners. They possess significant leadership qualities and are capable of managing organizational change. Mr. Amitava Parui gave his insights on managing key talents in the organization. He said that managing key talents is the integrated system of strategies, policies and programs designed to recruit, identify, develop and retain talent to achieve strategic business objectives. He also imparted knowledge about how a HR should focus on hiring, developing and retaining employees in the organization, and the impact of culture on managing talents in an organization. He also focused on the development of talents by identifying competencies, key resources and preparing a proper environment.
Mrs. Sangeeta Misra spoke about the agile HR practices in SAIL, HR value proposition and emerging challenges for HR professionals. She said that values can be created through knowing about the business realities, serving external and internal stakeholders, building HR resources, crafting HR practices and ensuring HR professionalism. She shared knowledge about the HR strategy of SAIL like how the manpower is utilized effectively, enhancement of skills and competencies, employee retention and management process, and nurturing culture which is aligned to business strategy and goals of SAIL.
Mr. Abhijit Sengupta touched three sub themes of the event namely HR as business partner, managing diversity and employee engagement. He said that HR must become a business which can be achieved through building core capabilities and service portfolio, defining & designing customer segmentation, and deploying & running customer relationship. He also spoke about the shared responsibilities of HR in an organization, key attributes of HR given by Dave Ulrich and the skills & competencies required for HR developing as a business partner. He laid emphasis on the significance and benefits of diversity management. He shared that it can help in maximizing the productivity, enhancing the creativity, increasing the loyalty of employees which will lead to effective attraction and retention of highly talented people. He further added that dependency on multiple skill sets in cohesive, high performing teams is the need of time. He asserted that the employee engagement can be achieved through involving employees in business planning, encouraging and promoting learning opportunities and by having a happy onboard experience.
