Abortion: Being Pro-choice
Today, abortion is a big issue concerning women because for years it had been said that abortion should not be legal. Many people feel aborting an unwanted child, or killing an unwanted child should be against the law. Many people don't' know what abortion is, who can receive abortions, and why people would even choose to get them. I feel as though a woman's body is her own to do with what ever she wants. Therefore, on the topic of abortions, I am pro-choice.
Whether or not women have the right to have abortions is a controversial subject. Opponents of abortions believe that abortion is seriously wrong. The pro-choice movement argues that a woman has the right to control her body and can do anything she wants to it without legal agreements. It is a women's right to make decisions about their own bodies. ...view middle of the document...
The dictionary defines Abortion as: The termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival. This simply means, inducing birth to kill the fetus, or baby before it is carried to full term. Often times early in a pregnancy, a woman will go to the doctor, and take a pill, and doing that will terminate pregnancy. If it is later, then she has to have the baby surgically removed from her body. If it is too late, then she will be unable to have the procedure.
Unwanted pregnancies can be very stressful for women. Not everyone gets an abortion for the same reason. Some women did not protect themselves properly before engaging in the act of sexual intercourse, become pregnant, and explore the option of abortion. Some women have fetuses diagnosed with birth defects, and choose them abort them so they won't have to raise a child with a birth defect. Also women should have the right to have an abortion if the pregnancy negatively affects the women's or the baby’s health. Another reason why women should be able to have an abortion if they are too young and unable to take care their babies. Therefore, if they think they cannot give their babies a good life then it is right for them to have abortions. For example, one of my friends was pregnant when she was 19. She and her baby's father were still in college by that time. Neither had a job, and they knew that they could not afford to buy food and provided medical care for their baby. My friend got an abortion, even though it was the hardest decision of her life. She knew that it would be better, however, for her own life and because she could not properly take care of the baby.
In conclusion, I believe that women have the right to have abortions. First, women have the right to control their own bodies. Second, they have the right to have abortions if the pregnancies will affect their health and their baby’s health in a harmful way. Third, women have the right to have abortions if they have been raped. A woman should never be stripped away of her right to control her body. Also advocates of abortion believe that abortion is seriously wrong but women should do what is best for them and their baby’s lives.
