Hershey’s Sweet Mission-Performance Management System

Recommend the redesign of Hershey’s performance management system to appeal to the diverse groups that it employs.
The redesign of Hershey’s performance management system is set up to look at employee’s skill sets on specific projects for the organization. This redesign is an effort, in which the people of the company set goals and track the progress of projects which would measure both business results and the achievement of employees working toward Hershey’s four core values (Noe, et.al., 2011, p. 56). 55). The first goal Hershey discusses is to embrace diversity and seek new approaches that will strive toward continuous improvements and successes for the company (Noe, et.al, 2011, p. 55). As an employee, I would always make sure to work toward this value so and embrace the diversity of the organization working with all employees to ensure the success of the company. The next value discusses the growth of the organization by working together and sharing knowledge in an environment of mutual respect (Noe, et. al, 2011, p.55). This value allows employees to learn from each other and share the knowledge of their current and previous experience in an environment where the worth of the employees are respected. Hershey’s training program is a great example of how this value can be nurtured amongst all employees. Millennial workers and baby boomers working together to share their knowledge in a mutually respected environment brings employees together from different ages to promote unity and the sharing of knowledge. I would be a part of the millennial worker and I would welcome the knowledge and experience I could gain from the baby boomers generation. The third value looks to make a difference outside of the organization by leading with integrity and determination in hopes to have a positive impact on everything they touch (Noe, et.al, 2011, p. 55). This value looks to have employees work together on community projects and have an impact on efforts outside of the company. Working with integrity and determination in all aspects of an employee’s efforts will ensure that the business runs with a positive outlook and any community efforts will have the benefit of that work ethic. The last value focuses on the company being one and working as one while understanding the responsibility of individual results (Noe, et.al, 2011, p. 55). As an employee, I always want to feel like part of the company and it is good to know my role is vital to the success of the organization. As an employee, I will remain accountable for my duties and responsibilities for the organization but will know that my efforts affect the team that I work with and the organization as a whole. These four values all play a part in how Hershey’s manages their staff and the efforts they make in training and fostering relationships within the company.
In terms of the trends identified in this chapter, describe which one may impact Hershey the most.
The trend of technology is one of the trends that may...
