“If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right” (Ford quotes). This quote expresses how one should always keep a positive mindset because the outcome of a situation depends solely upon on ones mindset. It can also help people establish a certain type of attitude one should keep when going through obstacles in life. Beowulf and Nelson Mandela similarly have accomplished many heroic things in their lifetime which would be hard for others to obtain.
Anglo-Saxon hero Beowulf along with modern day gallet Nelson Mandela practiced many brave deeds during their individual time periods. Beowulf shows extensive bravery in the story by illustrating to the readers , “...[his] hands alone shall fight for [him], [and] struggle for life against the monster" (Raffel 48). This depicts Beowulf willing to kill the monster with his bare hands. As a result of Beowulf's brave actions, he is viewed as a hero who performed the bravest of deeds, thus turning him into an epic hero. Beowulf offered on the behalf of his men and himself to protect Hrothgar's kingdom at any time. He proclaimed,"how many times have [his] men, sworn to stay after dark and stem [any] horror with a sweep of their swords"(Raffel 47). Beowulf and his Geats kept their promise and never faltered from their word. The Anglo-Saxon hero never showed signs of blemishes , whereas always displayed signs heroism and tribute. Beowulf commends his army of Geats, praising them on their willingness to protect and remain loyal to him at any given moment, yet he also is establishes his sole success apart from his crew. Just like Beowulf showed amazing bravery, Nelson Mandela showed the same dedication and willingness to fight for his people. Nelson Mandela showed an extravagant amount of bravery by being incarcerated for 27 years on behalf of his people, when he had not committed any crime and was not due for punishment. Aside from him being in prison, he reassured his society by sending positive messages and thoughts through, “[Mrs.Mandela] his public face, bringing his thoughts and his state of mind” in turn giving the people and himself, hope”(In Mandela Legacy, a Place for Winnie 1). Mandela was also a very responsible individual. Although Mandela was very kind to people, he had his limits. When it came down to the well-being of the people he did not hesitate one bit to rid of opposition, “[Mrs.Mandela] was deputy minister of arts, culture, science and technology, but was later fired by [him] after a series of incendiary comments and accusations of financial mismanagement" (In Mandela Legacy, a Place for Winnie 1). Mandela did anything and everything in his power to bring nothing but good to his people and only wanted positive people and things surrounding him. Even if what he was doing might have seemed harsh, he always performed such things with integrity still making him beloved by the people. No matter what his objective was, Mr. Mandela accomplished everything on his own. Beowulf and Nelson Mandela similarly have accomplished being authoritative within...
