A case study is a valuable tool that is often used in research. The use of a case study helps the researcher to investigate certain aspects of experiments or studies in which they are working on, which allows them to report on and to provide information that can be valuable to their research. A case study enables researchers to gain information. There are various methods that researchers use when they are performing case studies, each of these methods that are used has its own purpose. Like everything else in research there can be advantages and disadvantages when it comes to the use of a case study.

A case study has many different aspects, it can be conducted on an individual, or it could also be done as part of a group. The use of the case study has much the same goals as other forms of research, and that is to find how one case can be used to help another similar situation. If the case that is being performed by one researcher can provide insight into another case and help another individual with the situation that they are involved in then they have found a sort of common area and can use the research in the future. This is how knowledge and research is advanced.
If nothing else a strong reason for using the case study approach would be that it helps to give researchers insight into rare and uncommon situations, which then strengthens our understanding of such a situations should something similar arise at a later date. Add to that, we then have the extensive research on this situation that can perhaps later be furthered by another researcher and provide even further insight and information.
What are Advantages and Disadvantages to this Approach?
Like many other aspects of research the case study approach has both positives and negatives that can be involved. Some advantages that can be named of the case study approach would be that is provides others with the kind of detailed information into an individuals life and situation that other forms of research would not be able to.
