Cross Cultural Management of Japan & United States
One concern of the merger between these two companies involves group interaction and sense of space. People in the United States take great pride in themselves on individualism and informality. The Japanese culture values groups and formality. People in the United States admire a person who excels above everyone else. If this merger takes place and it makes the price of stock to rise, the American company might want to buy more stock and the Japanese might not agree with this and be more cautious which could result in a cross-culture conflict.

Additionally, Americans are more individualistic in comparison to Japanese, which can also create conflict among the people in the merged company (Steers, Sanchez-Runde and Nardon, 2010). Therefore, to ease the cultural differences between the two companies, the merged company should take appropriate steps. Following are some recommendations that can be used by the company to ease the cultural differences.
Company should identify the cultural differences in both companies as it would be beneficial for the company to take necessary steps to avoid the cultural differences. In this concern, the company can use cultural analysis by doing the self analysis and the advantage and disadvantage analysis (Chen, 2013). These analyses would be helpful for the company to ease the cultural differences. For example, through self analysis, managers can easily identify differences in culture of both countries that further can be used to make appropriate strategies to ensure the success of merged company.
Training is useful and effective method to understand the local culture and corporate culture. Therefore, the company should organize a cross cultural training program for the employees to create awareness about different cultures (Chen, 2013). The company can organize different kinds of training programs such as culture education, environmental stimulation and cross culture study. Culture study programs can be helpful for creating knowledge about local culture and operation system (Primecz, Romani and Sackmann, 2011). At the same time, the environmental stimulation program can be useful to understand different business environments and define to deal with different situations and problems. Beside these, cross culture study will be helpful to create understanding about different country cultures.
Company should make their management concept and spiritual mechanism in accordance with all employees to make a group, which characterized unity and equality (Chen, 2013). Company should also respect employees’ human dignity and keep satisfy them by fulfilling their requirements. Additionally, the company should also create a whole atmosphere of unity and harmony to manage cross cultural differences.
