Leadership: There are many ways to describe leadership; it is difficult to present a single definition that could cover all the dimensions.
“Leadership is inspiring others to pursue your vision within the parameters you set, to the extent that it becomes a shared effort, a shared vision, and a shared success. (Steve Zeitchik, CEO of Focal Point Strategies.)
“Leadership is the ability to take an average team of individuals and transform them into superstars. The best leader is the one who inspires his workers to achieve greatness each and every day”.

All the above mentioned descriptions emphasize on basic idea from where we can extract the result Leadership is the art of getting things done by inspiration, influence or motivating its followers while Management mainly depends on the analysis and ground realities.
Link between strategic management and leadership: The Strategic management and the leadership are two terms which are closely interlinked and both are dependent to each other. They can be related to achieve the organizational goals and vision.
We can explain the relation between these two terms by using a simple example which is from our daily lives, that is about the work with the needle and thread. Consider here leadership as the needle and the management as the thread, we all know that these needle and thread are used to stitch the cloths and in this process both the needle and thread has equal importance, in the absence of one, other part is entirely useless. To carry out the stitching work both the parts are compulsory requirement. The work starts with the needle and gets faster when the needle is enough sharp and strong, while the efficiency of stitching depends on the strength of the thread, similarly when the leader is enough sharp, strong in directing the organization the efficiency of the business can be enhanced with the assistance of strategic management which helps the leader to reach his vision with effectiveness.
The conclusion of the discussion; Leadership and Strategic management are interlinked with some minor differences. In the case of strategic management we are trying our best to achieve some long term goals and the same is the case with leadership.
The bottom line of all this discussion is beautifully captured by the golden words of Field Marshal Slim that (quoted in Business Management Study Manual), “Leadership is of the spirit, compounded of personality and vision: its practice is an art. Management is more a matter of accurate calculation, of statistics, methods, timetable and routine: its practice is a science.”
