The systematic institution of racism constitutes a systematic accumulation of effort that goes unnoticed behind the façade presented to the audience. Hidden agendas surreptitiously make the effort to facilitate subordination of the disenfranchised and powerless amidst the easily perceived promising future of equality. In the following response, I will argue the integration of humanist ethical ideologies that illicitly and surreptitiously generate racist ideologies that subjugate the colonized non-Western “other”. Social Darwinism, eugenics, imperialism, nationalism, cultural relativity, and multiculturalism are the main ideas that support my argument which will be subsequently elaborated ...view middle of the document...

The idea of modernity will pack a punch in the face for the strive of equality, due to the hidden agenda behind the idea of modernity. The hidden agenda behind the concept of modernity is that as long as the colonizers leave the colonized peoples to their culture and customs, then the colonized group will feel the pressure to be “modern” and this is a covert method to subjugate the lower class when the fear of the masses posed a problem for the scientists during the eugenics movement (Malik 1996). Not all scientists are good people as long as there is bias still roaming our thoughts that we aren’t all internalize and impose our ideologies.
As globalization in its current form expands, so does the inequality that accompanies it. Racism has always been both an instrument of discrimination and a tool of exploitation. But it manifests itself as a cultural phenomenon. The eugenics movement created by Charles Darwin sought to embrace the views of Social Darwinism. Social Darwinism as explained in Kenan Malik’s book, was an evolution of controlled breeding to increase desirable heritable characteristic traits, white skinned, blonde hair, and blue eyes. Eugenics movement influenced many other scholars to start collecting skulls of different species to prove one’s superior race over the other, because skull size showed the intelligence and civilized nature of each race. This all led to the promise of sterilizing and “ethnic cleansing” of the lower class (Malik 1996). As mentioned in Malik’s book:
“The superficially sympathetic man flings a coin to the beggar; the more deeply sympathetic man builds an almhouse for him so he need no longer beg; but perhaps most radically sympathetic of all is the man who arranges that the beggar should not be born (102).”
This is an intellectually thought provoking piece that makes sterilization and death very ironic and morbid. It portrays a sense of humanistic approach yet it backfires and contradicts the philosophy of humanism by simultaneously agreeing to relieve the beggar of suffering by the means of involuntary death. Sterilization came from the idea of eugenics and it was to eliminate all the undesirable people and sustain the dominate race, which was the whites versus colored (Malik, 1996). There are many prescriptions that are embedded in the human mind that it takes great enigma to deduce and deconstruct racism. The colonized and colonizer dichotomy is not in nature, but is socially constructed, therefore it is deconstructable. In the film, it intelligently breaks down the key concepts of Social Darwinism and its influence on Nazi Germany and the influence that colonialism played on the death of many different groups of people.
The fact is that the privileged grew into the privilege; it’s the driving force of imperialism. This subconscious lived experience of unearned privileges makes it difficult for privileged people to see the similarities that they and the third world are simultaneously fighting for....
