There is no way to keep aside the glorious achievements of the student community in many of our national issues. The nation feels pride for their different attainments in socio-political debacles. The majestic Language Movement from 1948 to 1952, the Mass upsurge of 1969 and the Liberation War of 1971 are the bright achievements of our undaunted university student community. Despite so many successes of our students in national issues, the present day social environment preserves awful negative attitudes to the on-going activities of the students in the name of so called national politics. Mostly, they are found to get involved in uncalled for, but pitiful chaos originated from the rivalry of national political schools. As the consequence, a huge bulk number ...view middle of the document...
Hence, the necessity of a proper educational environment in a university campus beggars descriptions. Students’ involvement in party politics affects campus environment and destroys the image of universities of being a sacred place. Students’ destruction of academic career, losses of lives and properties and other social and economic losses are the impact generated by student politics. Once got involved in party politics, many students engage in various crimes. According to Home Minister Abdussamad Azad, students do eighty percent of the crimes in Dhaka City (The Ittefaq, 24th Apr 2000). Therefore, a studying mentality remains absent in many cases. Students in campus run with guns and kill each other- this type of activities are highly disgraceful as students come to the campus for learning.
Now, as we know, the campus environment degrades due to students’ participation in party politics, the questions arises how severe it is, whether it should be carried out or not, to what extent there should be campus politics i.e. if there are student unions that represents the students’ demand only and do not serve the interests of the mainstream political parties, should it be tolerated then and things like that. In general, we want to accentuate the relationship between the educational environment and the party politics done by students.
Purpose of the study
The purpose of the study is to incorporate the relationship between the educational environments and student politics (here, student politics is referred to party politics done by students or student unions) and test what factors act as catalysts here. For instance, many general students are deprived of their right for a seat in hall which is compelled by student politics.
The objective is to determine the extent to which student politics is responsible to indulge in the university environment or we can say the educational environment from a broader point of view.
The research done here is exploratory in nature. No such research was done previously; yet some much related work was found regarding the problem.
