John Hancock started his company in 1951 over 60 years ago, his dream was to produce high quality utility trailer equipment. Mr. Hancock started the business in Dearborn Michigan where the automotive industry was booming. The company went from one building to owning several factories worldwide. Hancock Manufacturing has been named one of the leading sellers of utility trailer equipment by manufacture best magazine, and has also been deemed one of the top manufacture companies to work for. New computer systems, integrated with software, applications, high-speed modems, internet and intranets, making imputing data more precise, organized, more productive keeping Hancock at the top of the competition.
Technology also makes recruiting new employees much easier for the company thanks to the use of the internet by posting job openings on company web-sites, or with job finder web-sites which allow individuals to put their resumes on their website also gives the company recruiter access to potential employees. Hancock Manufacturing has made training the new and old employees a priority as technology has been moving forward. Also employees can access employment information such as insurance, payroll, and other job positions in different factory locations that maybe open at the company (HR, 2011).
Diversity
The vision of John Hancock was to take care of his employees first and his business would be successful. The Hancock Manufacturing was established on the principle of creating durable and reliable products through diversity and innovation; by making his company diverse looking for talented people of different ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds will allow Hancock Manufacturing to become innovative and achieve growth stay on top of their competition and provide a range of products to their consumer base. The principle established is still very much a traditional in 2012 through the HRM department. Hancock Manufacturing has achieved success by developing an encouraging culture where any idea is considered and innovation is welcome from any employee. An understanding that each employee has stake in the company provides Hancock Manufacturing with the ability to motivate and enhance the company’s culture. Beneficial training courses allowing employees to promote to the next level and constantly acquiring diverse employees provide such a culture.
