This paper will discuss the characteristics of a good leader for a new department of a company. Along with this, it will also discuss the six questions I would ask them to see if they are the right one for the job.
When a new department opens up you need another person to run it. Although this sounds easy and it can be someone who within the company, sometimes it’s not that easy. These two are the most common things to look for in a manager, if you don’t have both together, most people will think that you’re not that good at your job, or cracking under stress.
Last two are role model and the ability to lead. With being a role model, you want to inspire the team to be like you and do everything right. You can’t cut corners or do something wrong because your team might think this is okay behavior and do it themselves. With ability to lead. You must be able to show a person how to do it right and when to do. An example would be on running a report on the team’s performance and going to each team member one by one and telling them, how they are doing and what they need to improve on.
The 6 question I would ask during an interview would have to do with the position. My first question would be, “What do you expect out of this position?” this is to see if they want more money or if they have a real passion for leadership. Second question is, “you have a team member giving another team member a hard time, you confront the team member on their action, what would you say?” This is to see if you can deal with an issue that is affecting you team. Third is, “ do you have an action plan for your department?” this is crucial to see if the person applying can make the team successful and see where they want the team to go. Fourth is “name a...
