As for safety, unluckily the crime rate in Syracuse is considerably higher than the national average across all communities in America . The good side is there are only a few areas considered unsafe and it is said that as long as you avoid walking alone in those areas during midnight, you will not get into trouble.
Speaking of economy, although it has faced with challenges over past few decades, life is still enjoyable for most local people. In Syracuse, we have the fantastic Destiny USA shopping mall, annual Great New York State Fair and many other active business districts. Price level is fair so that cost of living in Syracuse is relatively low. Houses and vehicles are affordable for those with a stable job and income.
What I like most is Syracuse is a perfect mix of city and rural. Ever since I arrive there, I appreciate the sunshine and blue sky, green fields and numerous parks, and clean air everyday. And I can take the convenient Centro bus to look around the city.
All in all, if you get accustomed to the cold weather in winter avoid unsafe areas and find a decent job after graduation, Syracuse could be one of the best cities to live.
