Jesus & Mohammed Paper
Muhammad was born around 570 CE, and was the author of Muslims Holy Book the Qur’an. His father died before he was born, and when his mother and grandfather died he became a ward of his uncle who made him a shepherd. While on a trip to Syria with his uncle, Muhammad was told by a Christian monk that he was a prophet because of the marks on his body. When he was a young man he managed caravans for a wealthy older woman named Khadijah. She was his strongest supporter, and later became his wife. Because of her understanding of his spiritual propensities, Muhammad was able to spend time in solitary retreat. When Mary and Joseph reached Bethlehem tradition says that there was no room for them in any inns, so Jesus was born in a stable with the animals around. Others (like myself) think that since it was around the time of Sukkot when Jesus was born he was most likely born in a booth, which is a temporary dwelling, that Jews are commanded to live in during this holiday. Not much more is written about the childhood or early adult life of Jesus.
The one story about his childhood happened during the time of Passover when his parents went to the Temple in Jerusalem. He became seprated from his parents and found in the Temple discussing the Torah with the Rabbis who were amazed at how well he knew the Torah. It isn’t until Jesus is around the age of thirty that he is written about again. It is at this time that Jesus comes to John to be baptized. After Jesus was baptized he went into the wilderness for forty days and nights where the Adversary tempted him. For the next three years he traveled around speaking, and performing miracles. After three years of preaching his message of not only to love thy neighbor, but to love and pray for ones enemies as well, was he turned over to the Romans who killed him by putting him on a cross. But according to the gospels he was resurrected form the dead. After his resurrection that his followers felt the impact of all they had seen and witnessed that Jesus is the Messiah.
