Internet Purchasing Concepts
“An increasing number of businesses are finding that e-commerce is an efficient means for handling high-volume, routine transactions with suppliers and customers” (Fisher, Wong, & Fisher, 2000, p. 42). Supply through e-commerce works when suppliers host catalogs for purchasing companies to replenish stock online. Kudlers store managers will use the internet to connect with suppliers online to order merchandise. The selling company validates the user and company by inputting a username and password. The manager selects items by placing items in a shopping cart. Once the manager has completed his or her order the contents of the shopping cart and Kudler’s identity is mapped to a purchase order and forwarded to Kathy for authorization. The completed and approved order is transmitted back to the selling company for processing. The selling company obtains payment or credit authorization and starts fulfilling the order. Lastly, the order is shipped to Kudler (Fisher et al., 2000).
An Internet-based purchasing system would benefit Kudler and their vendors by increasing the efficiency of Kudler’s purchasing cycle. It will take less time for order processing and data entry of the manual paper process will be eliminated. It will be easier for each manager to determine what products are available and what items need to be purchased. Purchase orders will be created electronically and will be e-mailed to Kathy or the appropriate personnel reviewing and approving the order. Once the order is approved, the order will be forwarded to the supplier through the Internet eliminating the need for hand delivering or fax submissions. This will be a more convenient process and will increase inventory efficiency. This will also improve Kudler’s customer base by enabling Internet customers to place orders from almost anywhere in the world
