Berikut ini adalah beberapa trait theory:
a. “Great Man” approach: mencoba untuk mengidentifikasi relatif stabil, atribut disposisional yang dimiliki pemimpin.
b. Implicit leadership theory: keyakinan tentang bagaimana pemimpin harus bersikap dan apa yang harus dilakukan untuk pengikutnya.
c. Emotional Intelligence: kemampuan untuk mengelola diri sendiri dan hubungan seseorang dengan cara yang dewasa dan konstruktif.

Berikut ini adalah positive Leadership traits dari Indra Nooyi:
• Task competence:
- kosmopolitan, berpendidikan dan berpikir strategis,
- cerdas, memiliki pengetahuan yang luas dan memiliki kemampuan untuk memecahkan masalah.
• Interpersonal Competence :
- memiliki kemampuan untuk membujuk, mengadakan jamuan makan malam untuk anggota timnya.
• Conscientiousnes:
- memeriksa segala sesuatua yang ada diatas mejanya.
• Self eficacy :
- percaya diri dan mampu memimpin organisasi yang besar.

- memiliki rasa sosial
- memperhatikan kesejahteraan karyawannya.
• High Structure and high consideration:
- memiliki tujuan untuk menyeimbangkan keutungan dengan kebutuhan,
- mendorong karyawannya untuk mencari alternatif untuk mendapatkan biaya yang lebih murah,
- membawa “seluruh dirinya” ke kantor,
- memperhatikan kesejahteraan karyawan,
- percaya bahwa tenaga kerja harus diurus sebaik – baiknya.
Sedangkan Negative Leadership Traits Indra Nooyi adalah:
• Overly demanding, unrealistic standards:
- seperti pada masa mudanya, dimana dia memiliki standar yang tinggi hasil didikan kakeknya,dia mengharapkan semua orang disekitarnya untuk mengukur sampai mana batas kemampuan mereka.

- Premise: harus ada kecocokan antara gaya pemimpin dan tuntutan bagi pemimpin untuk menjadi efektif.
- Assumption: gaya kepemimpinannya tidak berubah. Jika ada ketidakcocokan antara gaya pemimpin dan situasi, maka situasinya yang akan diubah.
Beberapa hal penting dalam pendekatan ini:
- Memberikan beberapa pertimbangan untuk konteks situasional ketika menempatkan orang dalam peran kepemimpinan
