Mastering self-awareness, and in order to become an extraordinary communicator, the leaders create the attributes of great self-awareness, resourcefulness, flexibility in behaviour and effectiveness, which all together develop their innate resilience. All this is necessary to establish a clear thinking, focused mind, personal grooming, and behavioural psychology and NLP can be applied here. Classifying the depth of the topic chosen for this study is the role played by leadership, self-awareness and self-empowerment in the workers of health and social care sector, stressing upon the management working styles and requirements of managers, specifically the leaders in successfully handling their patients and subordinates. The study will be focused at the theme that, whether self-awareness and self-empowerment are essentially required in this particular working sector or not.
The report will focus on the different types of leadership training programs or educational methods being utilised by these health care and social institutions, their basic emphasis and the results expected by these programs. These include the use of NLP (Neuro Linguistic programming) training and Milton model. Both of these programs are linked in the way that the basic NLP patterns are founded on by the Milton Model (NLP world, 2008). It is a powerful tool for leaders and this should be learned by the clinicians in order to effectively talk, not just with the patients they are dealing with but also with the other clinical staff. This subconscious state make them relax and hang on to every word spoken making these staff the followers of their leaders. Thus in this way self-empowerment, self-awareness and leadership skills can be incorporated in the health and social care sector.
The major approach of this research assignment in leadership management, self-awareness and self-empowerment is based on NLP, through examining the varying mind-sets and behaviours in leaders.
The basic objectives of this study can be outlined as:
1. To identify the role played by self-awareness and self-empowerment in developing leadership skills for the professional development of clinicians.
2. To identify the impact and implications of such leadership development over personal self-awareness and empowerment.
Critical Analysis
According to Singh & Abraham (2008) NLP is a best tool to understand and evaluate the employees by a manager, and also to motivate them, both in individual or group form. In all fields, NLP has been gaining much recognition, including social work, healthcare, business management and others. Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development determines NLP as an essential part of education, development, training and coaching, leadership development, communication skills, cultural magnitudes and their understanding, negotiating, team development, advancement of personal attributes and several other true potentials and their realisation (Singh & Abraham, 2008).
Currently in UK, the healthcare, social care and policy directives, visions and values are changed. The social and health care division has seen tremendous changes in UK, which is because the experts involved in this area are actually undertaking many new roles and challenges.
