PENDAHULUAN
Mark Chan bekerja untuk sebuah perusahaan multinasional Inggris di Singapura dan telah ditugaskan untuk kantor pusat perusahaan di London. Mark Chan mempunyai performa baik di pekerjaannya dan menikmati karir internasionalnya yang sukses. Ketika ia dan istrinya memutuskan untuk kembali ke rumah, ia tidak dapat menemukan posisi yang diperlukan dengan pengalaman dan keterampilan kembali di anak perusahaan di Singapura. Kasus ini berakhir dengan Mark Chan yang bertanya-tanya apa yang harus ia lakukan.

Sebaiknya aturlah semua itu dengan seseorang yang memiliki posisi yang cukup tinggi dalam hierarki perusahaan untuk menjadi penasihat anda. Orang tersebut harus terus memberikan saran dan informasi mengenai perubahan dan perkembangan yang terjadi di perusahaan asal, tetap mempertimbangkan posisi anda, dan tidak melupakan anda begitu saja di sana (Wild, 2008: 541). Orang orang yang telah memulai karirnya menjadi seorang ekspatriat telah berani untuk mengambil resikonya dalam arti lain tentang perpindahan, adaptasi dan masa depan keluarga yang akan dibawa ke negara tujuan, hal ini membawa banyak masalah dan dilema di kalangan ekspatriat terkait keluarga, pasangan dan masa depan anak anak yang dibawa ke negara tempat bekerja.
Sembilan dari sepuluh kegagalan ekspatriat berkaitan dengan keluarga. Pasangan suami istri yang tidak bahagia adalah alasan terbesar bagi para pekerja untuk meminta pulang lebih awal, dan biaya perpindahan eksekutif tingkat tinggi dapat mencapai ratusan ribu dolar (Wild, 2008: 551).
Pengembangan karir ekspatriat
Pengembangan karir ekspatriat harus dimulai dan diperhatikan sejak awal layaknya karyawan biasa atau karyawan yang akan masuk menjadi bagian dari organisasi namun prosesnya tidak sedikit berbeda dari konsep dan tujuan, calon ekspatriat akan menjalani bimbingan sebelum perginya ke negara tujuan seperti bahasa, budaya, dan tunjangan untuk mereka yang akan menjalankan tugasnya.namun masalah kompensasi bisa menjadi hal yang rumit. Paket kompensasi bagi para ekspatriat dapat mencakup banyak jenis pembayaran atau penggantian biaya, dan harus mempertimbangkan nilai tukar serta inflasi (Ball, 2007: 408).
Setelah mengetahi beberapa pendekatanumum tentang ekspatriat dan masalah umumnya maka akan kami jelaskan beberapa sudut pandang yang mungkin cocok dengan kasus ini dan membawa si ekspatriat bisa keluar dari dilemanya.
ANALISIS FAKTOR
Pihak menajamen yang telah melebarkan sayapnya ke luar negeri tentunya sudh berpengalaman dalam pengelolaan karyawan di luar negri ataupun dalam negeri, namun sebaik apapun manajemen yang dibuat dan pengelolaan yang diterapkan masalah tentang keluarga ekspatriat akan selalu muncul karna halini bisa menjadi sesuatu yang tak bisa diduga pada akhirnya, penyeleksian yang ketat dan memilih ekspatriat yang tepat setidaknya bisa mencegah ekspatriat mendapat maslah di tengah tugasnya, bebrapa kendala yang sering muncul adalah budaya, bahasa dan masalah keluarga dan masih banyak yang lainnya.
Tidak menutup kemungkinan bahwa perusahaan akan melupakan atau tidak menghargai anda, meskipun semua usaha dan tindakan pencegahan sudah dilakukan.
