The literature of changing people’s opinions also known as the media is consistently portraying the wrong message, with a lack of detail to support the ideas. The author is in full control of manipulating the readers/viewers thoughts. Each author uses different writing style, which then leads to opinions rather than conveying the truthful story . There news provides biased stories to the author’s opinions, but in reality, it should focus more on real world problems, rather than opinions . The media always contains more than one side of the story. The author indicates that the study takes place in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. According to the study, ten carcinogens analyzed by the Rowland-Blake Group that have mixed with air downwind from Alberta’s Upgrader alley and petrochemical plants. Weber reluctantly does not include the fact of the Rowland-Blake Group authorized to do the study on air pollution from Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. The main secondary character in both articles from the Rowland-Blake Group indicated by Weber (2013) is “Isobel Simpson, a chemist at the University of California Irvine and co-author of the report published online by Atmospheric Environment.” Nikiforuk expands on the idea of supportive secondary characters that go against the different pollutants from Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. The Industrial Heartland is fairly spread out throughout the region that is e ffecting the farming and rural communities. Nikiforuk (2013) illustrates that “nearby residents and farmers have complained about bad air, hydrogen sulfide pollution, massive flaring and poor regulation in what they so call ‘Cancer Alley’ for years.” Nikiforuk’s (2013) report bestows from previous studies, “air quality in the region was rated the worst or among the worst of 11 provincial monitoring stations in 2004, 2005 and 2006, according to Pembina Institute.” Weber also elaborates on this by including back and forth statements from Isobel Simpson to try to defend his study on air pollution from petrochemical plants in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. Weber (2013) indicates that the study demonstrated, “precise readings of 77 different compounds downwind of petrochemical facilities and compared them with samples taken upwind at an area farm.” The author (Weber, 2013) raises public concern by acknowledging the fact that the study “found smog-causing chemicals in the air at levels comparable to and occasionally many times higher than some of the world’s largest cities and industrial complexes.” In Weber’s (2013) article, certain individuals negate Simpsons study, including an “Alberta government spokeswoman said the report doesn’t necessarily reflect real human exposure to the pollutants.” The author (Weber, 2013) indicates another individual opposing Simpson’s study, “Nikki Booth of Alberta Environment said the department has reviewed the study and doesn’t believe its findings are cause for concern.” The author (Weber, 2013) emphasizes that the latter individual in his article also shows reluctance of cooperation with the researchers study expressing that, “local organizations do a good job of monitoring air quality, said Shelly, who is on the board of the Fort Air Partnership.” Nikiforuk (2013) provides excess detail from the study that the “most abundant cancer-makers found in Heartland industry sampling included benzene, 1, 3-butadeine and ethyl benzene.” From the information provided by the author a well-rounded conclusion of the study of cancers correlated to Volatile Organic...
