1 – Kind of unique. Steve jobs, creator and original CEO of Apple stepped down to let successor Tim Cook take over. Steve Jobs passed away leaving the huge Apple conglomerate to be operated by the new CEO. According to the Rationale for New Organizational Changes, Table 4.2 (Palmer, et al, 2009, p. 90), I believe the new CEO is following all the rationales for the Organizational Structures as well as the Organizational Processes because he is taking over the mega company and needs to continue improving it as well as getting the employees on board with his vision. The internal issues are based on what direction he wants to take apple. This could be determined by the Elements of Strategy questions in Table 5.5 (Palmer, et al, 2009, p. 90). His external pressures are knowing how he is being watched globally by other technology companies and investors to see if he will continue to make the company a success or sink it.
2 – BP had a disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. The company is trying to change their image from a company that was responsible for damaging the environment and killing wildlife, to a responsible company that has a lot to offer the community and its investors.
