Re: Purchase of new computers
Three of the desktop computers that are currently being used by our clerical workers are getting to the point where they are slow, have reached internal storage capacity and are generally out of date. To continue to be competitive in the marketplace they will need to be replaced. These three computers all have internal hard disks with 50GB of storage capacity or less, have processors running at speeds of less than 2GHz, have less than 2GB of RAM, have CD drives, and n more than 2 USB ports. I want each to have at least 100GB of storage capacity, run at speeds of more than 2GHz, have at least 3GB of RAM, have at least one of the laptops with a DVD drive, and at least 3 USB ports ...view middle of the document...

4GHz Intel i3 Dual-Core CPU
• 6GB of RAM
• 500GB Hard Drive • 8x DVDRW Drive
• N 2230 WLAN
• 3 USB 2.0 Ports
• 8-in-1 Memory Card Reader
1 – Dell Inspiron 15R with 15.6” screen - $469.99
- This laptop meets all of the require criteria. Its specifications are considered fairly basic these days but I think the price can’t be beat.
2 – HP ProBook 4540x with 15.6” Screen - $549.99
• Windows 7 Professional
Operating System
• 2.4GHz Intel i3 Dual-Core CPU
• 8 GB of RAM
• 750GB Hard Drive • SuperMulti DVDRW Drive
• Gigabit Wireless LAN Adapter
• 2 USB 2.0 Ports
• 2 USB 3.0 Ports
- Although this laptop does not have a built-in memory card reader it does have additional USB ports, 3 of which are of the 3.0 variety. This is a good purchase price considering its Windows 7 Professional operating system, increased RAM and Hard Drive capacity over the Dell Inspiron 15R.
3 – Lenovo ThinkPad X230 with 12.5”screen - $999.99
• Windows 7 Professional
Operating System
• 2.5GHz Intel i5 Dual-Core CPU
• 4GB of RAM (expandable to 16GB)
• 500GB Hard Drive • Wireless LAN Adapter
• Bluetooth 4.0
• Memory Card Reader
• 1 USB 2.0 Port & 2 USB 3.0 Ports
- This laptop is slim and light offering superior portability and increased battery time. It also has the upgraded Windows operating system and expandable RAM capabilities. I would however like to see more internal hard disk space for this price. Perhaps an external hard drive should be considered with the purchase.
We can purchase all three of these laptops for just $2,019.97 plus tax which is fantastic in my point of view considering they all meet the required criteria. I wish we could just go out and buy the latest and greatest laptops out there but due to the current economic climate we have a limited budget for new technology purchases.
