Paradigm Shift Essay

422 words - 2 pages

The aviation industry has undergone many technological advances in its near century life. Some have advanced the lives of militaries. Others have advanced the lives of civilians. One of these advancements that interest me the most is actually a combination of things and ideas pertaining to speed. The sound barrier has been broken multiple times by the military, and recently in commercial use. I believe that soon light speed will be obtained.

The Gulfstream G650 is another aircraft I’ve worked on. It is actually a corporate jet. This aircraft broke the sound barrier last year at a speed of mach 1.33. It has been streamlined from earlier versions. It was engineered to be as lightweight as possible without sacrificing speed, safety, and durability. Gulfstream itself leads the industry in corporate sales. They hold many world records in the aviation industry. Corporate jets breaking the speed of light could cause businesses to hold important meetings and even make sales faster from the other side of the world.
There would also be a great change in the commercial aviation world. I can only imagine reaching Japan from here in two hours. With commercial jets having the capability to travel at the speed of light, lives could possibly be saved. There are medical specialists all over the globe, and if one was needed for an emergency in a different country, he or she would get there much faster. Also, certain religions require bodies to be cremated or buried within a certain amount of time after death. That could help if the family was a continent away. Cargo would get to its destination faster as well as humans.
I believe all this and more is possible within the next twenty years, especially with corporate aircraft breaking the sound barrier. If we’re able to break light speed, that could open up travel outside the solar system. With technology this advanced, the possibilities are endless.
