Personal responsibility in its relation to college success means taking charge of one’s own actions. Being responsible takes a lot of effort and will, as it’s a learned behavior. A lot of times taking things step by step such as working to a single goal or short term goal is more successful than trying to set different goals that will take a long time to accomplish and it can lead you to failure.
Second, personal responsibility will help you stay on track and focused. Preventing distractions such as extreme socializing; this can pull you away from completing assignments on time, studying for tests or even attending classes, therefore hurting your grade and back tracking your college career. Staying motivated is a plus, having that thought of accomplishing a goal in the near future keeps you going, the simple notion that in a matter of months you can be done with school and become better prepared and be able to move up the ladder at work is satisfying. Reassuring and committing to our goals to make sure we are doing everything in our hands to accomplish those goals helps in our success.
Last, practicing discipline continuously will lead us into obtaining better results. Time management is a great tool; one has to be creative and responsible to include full time job – if applicable, college classes and personal lifestyle and be successful doing it. If one lacks organization and does things at first impulse anything that you set yourself to do will more than likely fail as without organization you will try to do everything at one, procrastinate and hardly be productive. Stress levels will rise and clash with anything and everything you try to do. A lot of times having someone to collaborate with you is useful as you can rely on them to help, for instance, if you need to get your child to a doctor’s appointment, you may ask this other person for assistance which will relief you and give you more lead way to finish other things. Similar scenario at work or school, if working in teams, you may delegate or divide the work load amongst the team members making it easy and more productive for everyone.
As a conclusion, in my personal life I intend to get my goals together, work at them one at a time if needed, maintain control of my personal life and be proactive in my discipline towards school by managing my time effectively and reassuring myself that reaching my goals is what is on the top of my list.
