Unlike water, time or distance, responsibility cannot be measured by counting equal increments of itself. It can however, be categorized into aspects of different degrees and then evaluated. This text focuses on what some may believe to be the foundation for the overall spectrum of responsibility, which is personal responsibility. An attempt to measure the significance and importance of personal responsibility may be conducted most efficiently by determining how directly success can be attributed to it. This might make you happy for a while, as free money has a strong tendency to do. But money won irresponsibly will most often be spent irresponsibly. When I was stationed in Colorado I would gamble at the casinos from time to time. It was fun and I didn’t feel like I was being irresponsible. While I still consider myself to be reasonably responsible, and the money I spent was not from my budget, I still feel like that money could have been better utilized by a savings account.
Success by chance v. Success by personal responsibility
Success by chance from a random source is certainly not a negative to the positive of personal responsibility. You just don’t want to rely on anything other than a well-planned career for your financial future. However, a prudent individual will always be on the lookout for opportunistic avenues of success. You could invest your money for your future in the stock market or into a CD and think that you are being responsible because you’re investing in you and your family’s future. But then the stock market crashes and there goes your money. Hopefully you hadn’t invested all of your money and decided not to invest everything you had in preparation for unknown factors. That is taking personal responsibility. The primary relationship between personal responsibility and success is that people don’t always take responsibility for their actions but when they become successful it’s all they say I did this and I did that to become successful and they didn’t give credit to the people that helped them along the way.
Educational Success and Personal Responsibility
If you want to be in charge of your life than you need to take responsibility for the things that you do. If you are thinking about going to college or university make sure you think long and hard about it, make sure you have the finances and make sure that you are in a healthy state of mind for studying. If you go to a community college it would be more affordable and have more valuable resource for programs that you can enroll in so you may afford college. (Husain, 2012)...
