Personal Responsibility Essay

“Being thoughtful and taking responsibility serves you well, as your accountability is one measure of your success. In our professional and personal lives, most of us typically take responsibility for our actions, words, and attitudes. An occasional “oops” can rapidly put us on a radar that we'd prefer not to be on, irrevocably annoy our student population, or cause a family rift.”  (Zavod, 2014) Personal responsibility is a choice we all have to face when deciding to do the things that will help our future or the lives of those in our care, like my personal responsibility to succeed at college to ...view middle of the document...

If someone has a low value on their responsibilities they will most likely not complete their education. I place a very high value on what I feel is my personal responsibility to complete my education; along with this feeling comes the drive to get things done once I have started out doing them. I know that I need to be able to better provide for my family, because of that need, it is important for me to complete my education and complete it well so that I can provide better. If I don’t complete my education then I will have failed my family and not be able to provide for them what I need to.
In order to better complete what one views as a personal responsibility it is good to have a plan in place to complete it. In a survey by Authentic Enterprise, they asked 7 fundamental questions.
1. Is the communication leadership role described in The Authentic Enterprise something that I aspire to?
2. If it is, what does that mean in terms of my professional development?
3. If it's not, then what are the implications for my career and professional development?
4. No matter what the answer to the first question, do I have the skills, experience and capacity?
5. If I do, then what else do I need to do to move forward in my career?
6. If I don’t, do I know where and how to get them?
7. Am I willing to take responsibility for my own future?
(Griffiths, 2013)

I can correlate these questions to my definition of personal responsibility. Instead of looking at a communication leadership role, I can substitute the concept of financial success. As I want financial success I need to look at what that means in terms of my personal development, that question has a simple answer, complete college to gain access to a higher paying career. I have the skills...
