First and foremost I would like to thank you, Professor, and the KD team for such a wonderfully challenging week. The week not only reinforced my motivation to get my MBA at Kelley but, it also confirmed why I am actually working towards this degree. The biggest gap between my undergraduate education and my professional role currently is my tunnel vision. I would like to develop the know-how and think outside the paradoxical accountant’s box to provide full financial solutions including negotiating, budgeting, forecasting, and strategizing. My current work involves dealing with many personalities, especially in Academics this aspect of the job brings along with it many challenges. Yet, I know these challenges seem harder to me because I allow myself to get intimidated or frazzled. I think developing those negotiating soft skills will really come in handy and help me take controls of difficult situations or individuals that have challenged me before.
Another goal of mine is to develop my Project Management skills. Thus, through Kelly I want to gain a firm understanding of the four basic elements of a project: resources, time, money, and most importantly, scope. Furthermore, I want to gain confidence in my learned skills through interactions with faculty and group projects. This goal can be measurable by accomplishing all the requirements of the PMP certification as well as simultaneous application to my current position functions.
My third goal is to be able to do fiscal year reconciliation between my host organization and my institute. Currently, there are recurring audit issues between my organizations reporting structure and my host organizations reporting requirements. There has been a stalemate between these two organizations for two years now without any side trying to come to a solution. I am hoping I can utilize the combined knowledge base of the world-renowned faculty and business leaders within the Kelley school to help me come up with a solution which would be satisfactory to all before next year’s audit is upon me.
