Organizations of all sizes face the challenging task of an enthused and inspiring, rewarding atmosphere for their employees. Business must put in place a business strategy and technology that will help drive the workforce and help move the business with work practices. These strategies will help drive the behavior of the workforce. (Greenberg, 2013,2010, 2005)
Organizations must constantly strive to maintain a competitive advantage within the marketplace; the development of a strategic plan is essential to the success or that endeavor, as it helps to deliver the best possible results for both business decisions and practices and determines the long-run performance of a corporation. ...view middle of the document...

Strategic management includes a series of decisions implemented by leaders that outline the goals and objectives of the organization. Having a strategic plan in place can ensure everyone within the organization is working towards the same goals and have to tools they need to achieve them. At Riordan Manufacturing leaders of the organization should implement a strategic management plan that will assist the organization grow and outperform the competition. “Research reveals that organizations that engage in strategic management generally out-perform those that do not. The attainment of an appropriate match, or fit between an organizations environment and its strategy, structure and process has positive effects on the organizations performance.” (Wheelen & Hunger, 2010, p. 6). When it comes to strategic management organizations have to consider many factors such as ethics and social responsibility since they both that play a pivotal role in the organization’s daily operations.
Riordan Manufacturing operates in both a domestic and global market and has a duty to its employees, stakeholders, and customers to act with their best interest in mind. Ethics and social responsibility are two core competencies that organizations should employ and incorporate in the culture, brand, mission and vision of the organization. Ethics are the moral principles that guide how an organization behaves or conducts its business operations. According to Riordan’s handbook “The successful business operation and reputation of Riordan is built upon the principles of fair dealing and ethical conduct of our employees (Riordan C. G., 1997). A person’s ethical behavior is based on their personal values, morals, and upbringing and may vary amongst employees. Due to the ethical differences that exist amongst employees, it is Riordan’s responsibility to create a cohesive set of ethical standards for each member of the organization to abide by. The implementation of ethical guidelines can provide a doctrine to follow with suitable punishment if unethical behavior is determined. (Riordan T. , 1994)
In addition to ethical behavior, Riordan also has a duty to the general public to be socially responsible with its business operations. Being socially responsibility shows customers that Riordan does have its community and stakeholders best interest in mind. An organizations reputation relies heavily on how they are perceived by the general public and its stakeholders. “Our reputation for integrity and excellence requires careful observance of the spirit and letter of all applicable laws and regulations as well as a scrupulous regard for the highest standards of conduct and personal integrity.” (Riordan C. G., 1997).
