Do School Uniforms Restrict Students’ Freedom?
What do baseball players, flight attendants and even restaurant’ clerks have in common? They all wear uniforms to do their work efficiently. School uniform requirements have been controversial among students, parents, and school officials. Do school uniforms restrict students’ freedom? Some students and parents believe that forcing students to wear uniforms ignores their basic rights. But uniforms have lots of strong point for students because school uniforms can help students when they are more sensitive and emotional than any of time in the whole life.

At that time, Students, who were in rich, always wore luxury clothes so they look like nice more than others. On the contrary, students, who were badly off, couldn’t wear luxury clothes. Teachers and students could know who were rich and who were poor. This situation caused serious problem. First, Teachers treated rich students well because teachers could get a bribe from rich students’ parents. Also teachers gave rich students good grade for money even though they were not good at school work. But poor students were outside teachers interests. Second, students, who wore luxury clothes, ignore opposite students. So many students got wound and moved to other schools. Now, that school becomes special only for upper class. As a result, abolition of school uniforms made discrimination. So, school uniforms reduce the gap between rich and poor. Consequently, school uniforms console students’ tender mind in their most impressionable period.
Another benefit of school uniforms is that it can be a symbol of not only students, but also schools. Students feel a sense of belonging by wearing school uniforms, as it affects the establishment of unity, so they can concentrate on school work. Moreover, it is easier to control students not only from the perspective of school, but also parents’. Parents may want their children to be in a carefree school environment for studying and safety. Wearing school uniforms would help to decrease bad deed because school uniforms can remind students that they are students. For instance, students, who wear school uniforms, can’t smoke and drink in public. Limitations from external images don’t let students buy cigarettes and go club or pub.
