Sign Miracle Paper
February 19, 2014

Introduction:
In the Gospel of John there are eight miracle signs that are recorded that are performed by Jesus in this Gospel. In the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) the Prince of Life doesn’t show or give any miraculous signs to prove his authority. In the Abramic religions, these eight signs are actual events from the beginning of His ministry with the turning of water into wine to the final miracle of a miraculous catch of fish after the death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples which are not recorded in the book But these are written so that ...view middle of the document...

His mother told the two servants to do whatever he tells you to do. Now many people in this century would have found it disrespectful in how Jesus responded to His mother, but in the first century this was an actual sign of respect in the Jewish culture. However in regards to this sign, not only do I believe Mary was an important part at this wedding, not just because she was trying to save the embarrassment of the new couple but because she was giving orders and also because she knew that her son could save this embarrassment from happening. Jesus said to the servants “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet” (John 1:7-8). The wine was so fine that the master of the banquet expressed to the bridegroom hoe most people give the fine wine first and after people have had their share of the fine wine, the not so fine is distributed, but here the finest is saved for last. This miracle not only points to the deity of Christ as having power over nature but also how he gives and provides in a time of need.

Healing of a Nobleman’s Son:
The next miracle sign Jesus performed was the healing of the official’s son in John 4:46-54. After previously visiting Cana in Galilee, Jesus once again returned to the same country with welcomed arms (not for Him but for what he could do for them) especially after what the people had seen in Jerusalem at the Passover festival. When word got around that Jesus was in the area a high ranking official of Herod Antipas, went to Jesus and begged Him to heal his dying son. Jesus said (probably no to the official but the Galilean people) “unless you people see signed and wonders” Jesus told him “you will never believe” (John 4:48). Once again the official begs Him to come and heal his son before his child dies. Jesus told the man to go and that his son will live. The official believed what Jesus had said and went on his way back to his home.
When returning home his servant met him and told him his son was healed and alive. Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him “Your son will live” (verse 53). The aim of this sign was simple belief and the first real sign of salvation. If you just believe in Christ you will be saved, the man didn’t question Jesus, he believed that the Lord could and would heal his son and because of that belief and faith it was so. This miracle reveals Christ’ power over space because He did not travel to Capernaum but just spoke the words and he was healed.

Healing of a Lame Man:
There was a man who had been lame for thirty-eight years and lay by the pool every day waiting on someone to carry him to the pool of Bethesda. The pool of Bethesda was an annual tradition or even myth that whoever got to the pool first, after the water in wrestled by an Angle of the Lord they would be completely healed. The name Bethesda means “house of mercy”, and its...
