Today’s generation is different from the generation 20 years ago in terms of spending education for the young people. Parents today are exerting more efforts than before, looking for extra job if possible just to sustain the basic needs or physiological needs of their family. Education sometimes compromised by some parents for their young children to work just to support their family. But still there are young people who are determined and motivated to continue their studies despite of their undesirable situation. People spend too much in shorter plans and they did not focus on the longer one. Parents also lacks of motivation for them to encourage their students to continue. Why?... because they didn’t have it during their time. So, this time what can we do to resolve this kind of situation? What if there are lots of students who are determined to pursue their dreams. Can they sustain their studies until they have it?
It has been observed here in Consolacion Community College since its opening on 2010 that there are lots of students who are poor but deserving students who are willing to continue with their studies despite of living below the average standard of living. That’s the reason why the researchers are interested to find out the sustainability of these working students in pursuing their quest of becoming professionals someday. The researchers are eager to design based on the possibilities that could up from the results of this study.
This study will be anchoring the theory of Perna, Laura W. (2010) in which she said “giving student the opportunity for meaningful one-on-one interactions with their professors is also critical to fostering a supportive campus culture, and such interactions may be particularly beneficial to working students”.
