1) What was the purpose of the essay? In your response, explore the deeper meaning of this question. The goal is not just to complete the assignment but instead to convey a message. What do you plan to accomplish with this essay? What do you hope the reader takes away from this argument? Inform readers of the advantages of alternative energy. I plan to successfully argue why alternative fuels are better than gasoline products. I hope the reader takes away how alternative energy could help preserve oil and possibly assist in driving down the cost of gasoline.
2) What did you learn from completing this assignment? Did you experience a new understanding of the topic? Did you change your ...view middle of the document...
This particular topic concerns me because I don’t want gas prices to rise to amounts that cause extreme hardships on me and my family.
6) Is there anything else you would like for me to know before reading your essay? I hope to have completed this essay in a manner that satisfies the directions. I enjoyed using the Toulmin method for the first time as well. For future essays and research projects I hope to use the writing style.

Advantages of Alternative Energy
Since the beginning of the global downturn in 2008 the United States has seen its gas prices increase traumatically. With the cost of oil in the Middle East closing in on one hundred dollars a barrel alternative energy production is back in the lime light to try and slow down dependency on oil. James Lee associate professor in the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at the Rochester Institute of Technology states “the two broad categories of energy can be broken down into electricity and thermal energy (heat)”.(Katz) Petroleum and natural gas consumption would decrease marginally in the beginning, but the long term effects could double the efforts for these resources . The caveat to alternative energy is the cost associated with its production and unknown variables. Alternative energy will help to lessen the strangle hold on fossil fuels and one day be just as competitive with major players like petroleum and natural gas.
With oil production projected to increase to 338 billion barrels annually by 2030 the Middle East controls over fifty percent of the world’s oil reserve. Saudi Arabia has the highest production of oil in the world, which is projected to increase from 8.5 -11.5 million barrels a day to 14 – 15 million barrels a day sustained. Oil and gas account for approximately sixty – three percent of all barrels produced in the world. Jan Kalicki former counselor to the U.S. department of Commerce co-chair of the US-GCC Economic Dialogue states “Saudi Arabia has repeatedly opposed moves by such hawks as Iran and Venezuela to sharply cut back production and drive up prices. In fact, the opposite is the case: the Saudis have committed tens of billions of dollars to developing new oil and gas fields in the kingdom and to building new export refineries both at home and abroad”. If America allows the Middle East to continue to hold the edge across the board we expose our country security threats. With Saudi Arabia stepping up their expansion of alternative energies and fuels the United States has to counter their production of energy to lessen its dependency on oil.
The first step into figuring out how to replace oil would be to categorize the categories of alternative energies. Thermal energy and electricity are the two categories that alternative energies can be broken down into. Alternative thermal energy is heat that is extracted from the ground. Electricity can be extracted...
