Assignment: "Why college education is important to me"
October 2, 2013
In today’s society it is a prerequisite for survival to obtain a college degree. It’s a goal one must have in order to make a new beginning and to be able to combat life’s challenging issues, to hope and strive for a better future. The college opportunities compared to the past 20 years have increased tremendously since online distance learning has become an important gateway for education, especially for those who don’t have the time and convenience to attend a traditional college. According to Collegeboard, “The typical bachelor’s degree recipient can expect to earn about 73 percent more over a 40-year working life than the typical high school graduate earns over the same time period “.
It’s almost impossible to get job in an economy that is in ...view middle of the document...
That gap widens to three times in comparison to persons who a hold a Bachelor’s degree”.
After doing some more research of the labor market it became obvious to me that my high school diploma in the twenty-first century was not going to be sufficient to find a decent job and provide for my family. So I concluded that I needed to start a quality college program from a reputable, accredited institution, that offered quality study programs, preferably online so I could work at my own pace and time. I have spent many years being the sole provider of my family, putting college on hold to raise a family, because I simply could not afford it. But now the time has come to seize this great opportunity to retool myself with the latest knowledge and skills for future employment.
I chose to attend college because of the great healthcare administration curriculum. The program is very well structured and the tuition is affordable. It’s really the beginning of new journey for me and a very important one. It will require a lot of concentration and dedication, realizing that this new educational challenge is the road to a better life. I always had the desire to work in the health care industry, and hopefully I will succeed one day.
My goals are to graduate from college and get a steady job. My dream is to become a healthcare administrator in a hospital, or something in health occupations. I know that a college education will teach me valuable skills such as time management, leadership, and creative and critical thinking and will allow me to get employment that meets my specific needs. I will also have a much wider range of career opportunities through going to college. My life will be changed for the better and I will be proud of myself for achieving my goals.
