Business Experience Essay
The work experience which I completed took place at the media company Mindshare, part of the WPP group. Mindshare is a media advertising company which works with large companies such as Unilever, Ford and Chanel to help advertise their products using different media platforms, such as TV, Press and Digital. My two week work experience was broken up into two different teams which I would be working with, both within the Unilever advertising team. The first week I work with the Publishing team. This involved placing adverts within newspapers and magazines for certain Unilever products, and I had to work on deciding which products should be advertised at appropriate ...view middle of the document...

What I most enjoyed about the work experience was working within team as I really felt that my work actually contributed and help the other members of the team. I did this in a number of ways, either with small tasks such as gathering pictures of different products logos to be used in power point presentations or through creating annual competitive spreadsheets to save others time and allowed them to do other jobs as they trusted me with these. All the people I worked with were very thankful and it was rewarding to actually help them rather than be a burden, which is very common during work experience. Another part of the work experience which I real enjoyed was learning how to use different advertising programs such as ‘Addynamix ‘and ‘eTelmar’. I really feel that if I do consider finding a job within advertising this will give me an advantage over others as I will not have to be taught how to use these essential computer programs. My least favourite part of work experience was the lack of work. As it was only work experience they never had that much that I could do each day, which I always seemed to finish with an hour or two to spare of the day which I feel were wasted as I had little to do. I also didn’t want to burden any of my team who were working extremely hard by making them try and find me something insignificant to do. Therefore I feel that my least enjoyable part of work experience was the fact that they did not trust me, or were not allowed to give me any significantly important work which could have really challenged my skills which I had learnt during the two weeks, this is supported by Herzberg’s theories of job enrichment and job empowerment which suggests that I would have been more motivated if I was given a greater, more challenging work load.
From the experiences I found the most interesting, I found that I love working within a team rather than individually as I would rather share success with others and work with others to achieve a better outcome. However I do believe that this need to work within a team is due to the fact that I work much better when I can ask for help rather than try and solve the problem individually which is one of my faults which I found during my work experience. I also found that work that you find interesting can be extremely enjoyable and rewarding which bodes well for the future and could suggest that media advertising is a career path that I may want to pursue. The part of the work experience I least enjoyed was the spare time without work which suggests that I may want to look for a career in a company or business where I am set tasks and given work rather than self-employment where I may lack the motivation or necessary skills to work successfully on my own.
My expectations of working at Mindshare, a media advertising company was that I believed that they designed the adverts for the companies who employed them. This would have meant using my creative side to help think up new ideas for...
